Newsletter Term 5
Dear Parents and Carers,
Year 11
We have now entered ‘exam season’ – the first for a few years. Whilst this has been a source of anxiety for many, I have been encouraged that the majority of our students have been working hard and remaining positive. We are grateful for the resilience and commitment of our students that even though these past few years have been so different, they still continue to put in the effort and good attendance. Experience has shown us that they really will get the results they deserve and it will pay off in the long run.
We ask all parents and carers to continue to support the ‘catch up’ work and encourage your child to attend interventions and engage positively in all lessons and activities. To this end, we expect all Year 11 students to still be in school for lessons until they have taken the exam in that subject. We wish them all the very best in their GCSE exams.
This weekend is the fourth anniversary of the death of Ella Dalby and her mother Laura Mortimer. The Year 11 students performed the moving 'Ella's Dance' at CentreStage and remembering her will be part of our end of Year 11 assembly. The friends and family of Ella and Laura are forever in our thoughts and especially at this time.
Guiding Principles
Our Three Guiding Principles, as you know, are:
- To live without harming others
- To do acts of kindness
- To show respect for others
These are the expectations we have of every single person at Barnwood Park. They are essential for our strong family community. Please continue to support these ideas at home and ask your child what they have done that day to support these principles as they are also an important part of our Home School Agreement. It is really important that these are reflected in the way we all work together to achieve the best outcomes for our children. The vast majority of our students exemplify these principles every day, but any child who feels that they are not able to reflect these principles needs to work hard to meet our expectations as we will not be lowering our standards.
School uniform
The weather is warming up and students should wear their normal shirt, tie and blazer. Should the weather require a revision to the school uniform policy, we will revert to ‘the hot weather’ policy and allow students to remove their blazers or, in extreme conditions, the school will direct students to wear their PE kit. An email will be sent to parents/carers if this becomes necessary. We are proud of our students and we hope by encouraging them to wear their Barnwood uniform with pride, that they too value being part of the Barnwood family.
Transition and Year 6
We look forward to welcoming Y6 students to the Barnwood Park family when they have their induction days with us on 7th and 8th July. We hope that being able to visit will help their transition in September.
I wish you a safe and enjoyable half-term.
Kind regards
Mr Albon
