Term 1 2022 - Headteacher Update
Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you to everyone for such a positive start to the school year; our students are very well presented and we are seeing some excellent work in lessons.
We have welcomed our Year 7s to the Barnwood Park family and are already incredibly proud of them; they have made a super start, attending and behaving well with a lovely attitude and work ethic.
The school has been incredibly busy with Family Information Evenings, Open Evening and two Open Day mornings. Year 11 students have completed a GCSE Geography coursework project in Bristol, whilst students from all year groups attended two writing workshops at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.
I would like to thank Ms. Young and her team for the work in supporting our children; the school has been awarded a Best Practice Award 2022 for its work as a Virtual School for vulnerable students.
As a whole school, we have been revisiting our behaviour expectations to ensure positive behaviour in lessons, transition between lessons and finally, break and lunchtimes. These expectations have been shared with students in year group assemblies and emphasise our vision for a calm school where everyone is respected and can work hard.
Can I please ask for your support in ensuring that your child attends school and is on time. The difference that good attendance can make to a young person is significant in terms of academic progress and developing strong interpersonal skills.
We have a school target of 96% attendance; our current attendance can be seen below:
96% - 100% = 515 students
90% - 96% = 126 students
0% - 90% = 239 students
Finally, our school reception continues to be a hive of activity with both students and parents/carers. Our receptionists work very hard to meet everyone’s needs, but, I am disappointed to say that they have been subject to some very unpleasant verbal abuse over the last two weeks; this is not in keeping with our expectations and I know that I can count on you all in reinforcing the importance of politeness and good manners.
Kind regards,
Karen Clinton
