During this academic year, students in Years 9-11 have been using Tassomai as a core activity for their science homework. Tassomai is an online learning program which uses the educational principles of spacing, interleaving and targeted repetition to help students improve their grades. It works by spreading their learning into bite-sized chunks over as long a period of time as possible. As students answer questions the site begins to learn where their strengths and weaknesses are, allowing the site to target specific gaps in their knowledge - but also making it easier for our teachers to see where your child might need some extra help.
Students can use Tassomai on any internet-enabled device, and there’s an app which is completely free to download from both the Appstore and the Playstore.
From September, students in Years 10 and 11 will continue to use Tassomai to support their learning in Science and should be aiming to complete a minimum of 4 Daily Goals each week. This will be alongside more traditional homework activities aimed at developing the skills needed to successfully access exam questions.
To find out more about Tassomai we would recommend that you visit their website and watch the videos which you can find there. Alternatively, you can get in touch with them either by emailing admin@tassomai.com or calling 020 3380 7968.
As part of the school’s subscription to Tassomai, you can receive a weekly email with a report of how your child is doing on the program. You can use this report to identify the areas that your child is doing well in, and where they might need some extra support. The email will also give you instructions on how to log in to your own account, which will give you even more detail about how your child is getting on.
To receive these reports, please email your child’s name and current year group to tassomaiadmin@barnwood-park.gloucs.sch.uk to confirm that we have permission to use your email address for this purpose

This term Mrs Workman has been training to become a School Food Champion as part of the Biteback2030 campaign to get students working to change the food culture in their schools. Barnwood is the only school in Gloucestershire chosen to take part and over the next academic year a team will be selected to develop new food ideas, hopefully make the eating spaces more appealing and engage the whole school community in eating better. Click here to watch a video and find out more.
Year 10 GCSE Food Nutrition & Planning spent a day of the farm near Fairford with two farmers learning about pasture fed beef, growing cereal crops, chicken production and most popular of all on a lovely Organic pig farm looking at piglets dashing around and their mums wallowing in the mud. It was a great day that re-enforced lots of the learning covered in their theory lessons. The trip was the part of an ongoing development project with the Ernst Cook Trust to develop outdoor learning opportunities that enhance the GCSE curriculum.
Year 10 have also had the opportunity to cook with wild Alaskan salmon as part of the Fish in School Hero programme with Mrs Workman.
They learnt about the provenance of the salmon, how to skin fillets and cooked a wide range of dishes that demonstrated excellent cooking skills. They worked in small teams to create sweet and sour salmon noodle stir fry, salmon goujons, salmon fishcakes and tarragon and salmon tart with a tomato concasse and homemade mayonnaise.
It was a great opportunity to collaborate, try new flavours and food like salmon and tarragon and try new skills including making mayonnaise and skinning salmon.
Huge Thanks to Food Teachers Centre and Alaska Salmon for this opportunity.
Miss Kings year 9’s carried out a ‘Swiss Roll bake off challenge’ this term. Congratulations to Nadia and Kulsoom for first place, Ginny and Erin for second place and Cheyenne and Adam, Katie and Reece for joint third.
Year 7 Cooking Club have had a brilliant term cooking a variety of foods from mackerel filleting, Mexican churros, lasagne, butternut squash cake and they finished term with kebabs over a campfire. An excellent team of cooks helped by Mrs Griffin and Tabitha from Year 10.

On the 28th June, History and Drama took 42 students to the Everyman Theatre (Cheltenham) to watch SIX: The Musical – ‘the phenomenon everyone is losing their head over!’ From Tudor Queens to Pop Princesses, the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a 75-minute celebration of 21st-century girl power. The music and choreography was out of this world, and a fantastic experience was had by all!

From 9.00 am all Y11 students can collect their results.
From 10:30 am, Y10 can collect their results.
Results will be available to collect from the Sports Hall. Upon arrival to school, we ask that students enter via the main gate entrance and walk to the front of the Sport Hall where you will collect your results envelopes.
Parents and family members are welcome to wait on the tennis courts. Please ensure you bring identification with you to collect your results. We ask that students then open their envelopes outside on the tennis courts (weather permitting) so that we can keep numbers inside to a minimum. Students who are not able to collect their results should email exams@barnwood-park.gloucs.sch.uk so alternative arrangements can be made. Please note we require written permission from the student for someone to collect results on their behalf. For more information about results, click here.

Year 10 Work Experience Dates 2023
27th – 31st March 2023.
Help your young person get ahead of the game, start by encouraging them to think about what kind of placement they’d like to do and perhaps make some calls to businesses linked to their aspirations. Colleagues, family and friends can also be an excellent source of work experience placements.
