⭐ Students of the Term ⭐

Year 7 - Finlay B

Always hard working, conscientious, supportive of others, willing to take part in everything and a valued member of the Barnwood Year 7 family.

Year 8 - Millie J

Millie is a great role model in form, she contributes to tasks and discussion. Also, it has been great to see Millie engage and thrive in extra-curricular activities.

Year 9 - Dan J

Always polite and kind to others. Dan always strives to do his best in all lessons and engages well in the classroom. Dan is a role model student at Barnwood Park and we predict a bright future for Dan. 

Year 10 - Natasha T

Natasha has been really good in form; organised, positive and mature. She has created a beautiful display for 10R with the other students during form time in our wellbeing slot. She is reliable and kind to her form peers.

Year 11 - Scarlett C & Abbie C

For representing the school at the G15 Celebration of Success at Gloucester Cathedral. Working extremely hard in all lessons, being helpful and bubbly around the school and a pleasure to teach.

Easter Raffle 

Thank you to all those who have donated towards the Easter Raffle. We have raised a massive £552 which will help go towards our funding for an outdoor gym. The prize draw took place on 7th April and winners have been contacted directly to collect their prize.

PE Department

 

Term 4 brought the remaining Football fixtures to a close. 

It's been lovely to see large numbers of Y7 boys taking part and representing the school, with nearly all the fixtures having 2 teams.  Player of the Season - Jack Haviland

The Y8 boys have shown promise that they can be a team that can progress into the semifinals with some strong performances, especially against Crypt School. Player of the Season - Oscar Barrow

The Y9 boys wanted to improve on their performance from last year, where they narrowly missed out on the semifinals. Their season started well but narrow losses against Crypt and Churchdown meant they would miss out for another year, regardless of the excellent performances they showed every week. Player of the Season - Ryan Clarke

Y10 boys unfortunately had a lot of games postponed and then cancelled throughout term 4, but a 2-2 against Holmleigh Park was a big highlight. Player of the Season - Alfie Smith

Next term we look forward to beginning our summer sports, with Cricket fixtures already booked in and we also have big sporting events in Athletics and Rugby League coming up in term 5 and 6.

 

Term 4 also brought the Netball District Tournaments held at DRHS and the season to a close.  It's been lovely to take a team to every tournament and for them to demonstrate their competitiveness on court. 

U16 tournament was well contested with some lovely defensive play.  Player of the Season - Lily Ravenhill

The U15 team have shown promise that they can be a team that can progress into the semi-finals next season with some strong performances. Player of the Season - Laticia Davis

The U14 team have made so much progress with great link up between centre court players. Player of the Season - Kimmi Tanner-Joyce

The U13 team have played some fantastic netball, narrowly missed out on a semi-final, went down to goal difference.  Player of the Season - Charissa Matthews

The U12 team came third in their group, narrowly missing out on a spot in the final playoffs. Player of the Season - Freya Taitt.

Next term we look forward to beginning our summer sports, with Cricket fixtures already booked in and we also have big sporting events in Rounders, Athletics and Rugby League coming up in term 5 and 6.

 

Individual Sporting Performances

Cody (Yr 7)

Cody attended the British Schools Judo Championships on 13th March at The English Institute of Sport Sheffield. He fought incredibly hard and was delighted to achieve a bronze medal in his category representing Barnwood Park.

 

Oskar (Yr 9)

Oskar has returned from Spain where he was at the national performance camp for Tennis. Oskar showed he has an exemplary work ethic whilst he applied himself to the challenge of the high performance intensive training with such a positive attitude. Well done!

Year 9 and 10 DofE Award Students

To qualify for the expedition, you must have completed the three other sections of the DofE and submitted evidence and assessor’s report by Friday 1 July 2022.

Silver expedition dates: Sunday 17th July – Tuesday 19th July 2022, camping Sunday and Monday nights. Campsite TBC

Bronze expedition dates: Monday 18th July – Tuesday 19th July 2022, camping Monday night. Campsite TBC

Wellbeing Audit

 

Dear Parents and Carers,

Barnwood Park School is undergoing a mental health and well-being audit exploring what we do well and areas that require improvement. The audit will encompass voices across the whole school community and your voice matters. Adult Education Courses 

 

Adult Education in Gloucestershire

Adult Education are running some great courses online which are designed especially for parents/carers.  All the courses are open to all and free* to many.

  • Upgrade Your Maths is a 5 week course running on Thursday mornings from 10-12. This course is designed especially for parents who are anxious about maths. Parents work in a small group online and are supported so that they soon feeling comfortable tackling a range of maths questions and develop confidence to support their children with their homework. Starting on Thursday 28 April. You can enrol by clicking here.
  • Help Your Child with Writing for ESOL Parents runs on Wednesday afternoons online. The focus of the class is to improve parents English skills and look at the techniques schools use to support children with their written skills in the UK.  This class runs weekly in term time for 12 weeks. You can enrol by clicking here.
  • Calming the Mind is a 4 week introduction to mindfulness. Parents who attended this course last year have noticed a real change in their lives, and a greatly improved relationship with their children. This course is running on Monday evenings and Tuesday mornings, starting in early May. * The courses are free if you are over 19 years old, have lived in the UK for 3 or more years, have a valid Residence Permit, and are one of the following: Unemployed or earning below £17,374 per year; Qualified below a Level 2 ( less than 5 GCSEs); Have mental health challenges, Have a learning difficulty or disability.

BeeZee Families Programme

 

The latest BeeZee Families programme will be running in May. It is a FREE afterschool programme for children and their families (parents & siblings welcome). Your engagement is key to spreading the word about this programme to children and families.  

The programmes are running for 11 weeks in the Forest of Dean and in Gloucester.  They work with families and their children who are over the healthy weight range to set personal and realistic goals, including healthy snacking, portion sizes, labelling and fussy eating. The children have a great time in our classroom activities and the 2nd hour there is a chance to learn new skills in our physical activity sessions with a qualified sports coach.  

They also have a range of other services in Gloucestershire depending on each family’s lifestyle - here is a reminder:  

BeeZee Lite: Sign up to a FREE 1-hour session with a Nutritionist to talk about your family and the changes you want to make. Leave with a robust plan on how to make easy, healthy changes.   

BeeZee Live: A FREE virtual weekly session for 10 weeks, delivered by trained Nutritionists covering making healthy changes in a fun and engaging way for the whole family. No-one can see you and you don’t have to speak, just type into the chat bar. Simple!
