GCSE Advance Information

To make exams in 2022 less daunting, students have now been told in advance some information about the exam content by Exam Boards, helping them to manage their exam preparation.

This information includes the topics on which students will be examined in the Summer. It is therefore crucial that all Year 11 students refer to this information and plan their revision around it.

Year 10 should also make sure they know the topics that will be examined in their GCSE Statistics exam.

You will also find there information about the February/March Trial exams for years 10 and 11, Summer GCSE Exam timetables, GCSE results day, and Important Information about exams for all students.

⭐ Students of the Term - Well done! ⭐

Year 7 - Baden Clarke for always being enthusiastic and helpful. Baden has taken advantage of and fully engaged with a range of extra curricular activities often inspiring his peers to do the same.

Year 8 - Fraser Bright for great attendance, always being organised, responsible and polite and generally demonstrating our three guiding principles.

Year 9 - Kira Townsend for being supportive towards her peers, helping a new student settle in and kept on top of her online learning. Plus receiving a Headteacher's commendation for her creative writing.

Year 10 - Hristina Stoyanova for showing resilience, perseverance and dignity in the face of adversity.

Year 11 - Ella-Grace Edwards is attending England Athletics Age Group U17 Indoor Championships this weekend competing in the 60m Sprint. She is also managing to keep up with her training and maintain good progress in her academic studies.

House Maths Challenge 🔴🔵🟡

This term we have launched the House Maths Challenge, where one representative from each form in Year 7, 8, and 9 answered as many mental maths challenge questions as they could in 1 minute. The competition was videoed and will be shown to students in an assembly after February half term to see which house is victorious. Representatives were:

Year 7 - Cody Howell, George Smith, Charlie Symonds, Jacob Hovey, India Burdett

Year 8 - Jayden Green, Joshua O'Donnell, Jeshurun Newton

Year 9 - Adam Knight, Corryn Hockley, Ethan Clarke, Harry Williams

PE Department

Since Christmas, the PE department have been taking part in a range of sporting fixtures seeing success in Football, Netball and Cricket. It has been great to see large numbers of students taking part in training since we first started.

The U15 girls football team won the district football tournament beating Ribston, Denmark High School, Crypt, Severn Vale and Churchdown to the trophy.

Barnwood hosted the Lady Taverners U15 indoor cricket tournament for the first time, winning one match, losing the other. A special mention to Jess Owen and Laticia Davis (Yr10).

U13s and U15 boys represented the school in the Lord Taverners Indoor cricket tournament, with wins against Chosen Hill but falling short against Dene Magna and Newent. A special mention to Ben Ansermoz (Yr8) and Kyrese Zymelka (Yr10) who came away with Man of the Match performances.

Boys football results - Y7 won both matches against Gloucester Academy and Henley Bank, Y8 won against Gloucester Academy, Y9 won against Henley Bank and drew against Holmleigh Park and Y10 drew against Holmleigh Park.

Individual Sporting Performances

Ella-Grace Edwards (Yr11)

Attending national competitions for the indoor 60m sprint - Well done!

Oskar Pigan (Yr9)

Is currently in Spain at a national performance camp for Tennis. This is the same camp that Andy Murry attended when he was Oskar's age. We wish Oskar all the best while he is training in Spain and look forward to seeing what he can achieve in his Tennis career.

McKenzie O'Reilly (Yr8)

Competed in the Swimming Para Winter National in January.

50 freestyle 5 second pb - 10th in the under 14 years category.

100 freestyle 13 second pb - 10th in the under 14 years category.

400 freestyle 1 minute pb - and amazingly 3rd quickest in the under 14 years category.

Following his impressive efforts McKenzie is hoping to be selected for the Welsh National squad in the near future.

Cody Howell (Yr7)

Has been performing to a high standard in Judo. Last term Cody competed at the Worcester Judo Competition with 3 fights, 2 wins and gaining a silver medal for his age group.
Cody will be representing Barnwood School in the British Schools Championships on the 13th March. We wish him all the best.

Science Department

Tassomai is designed to support students with on-line quizzes and short videos, and regular, daily, use is proven to improve exam grades.

Well done to the following GCSE Science students who have been regularly using Tassomai since September.

A special congratulations to Savannah in Year 11, who has not missed a single day since September.

Science club

In science club we have been looking at various experimental techniques over the last term. Recently we made a rainbow using the different densities of salt water and food colouring.

Next term we will be solving the kidnap of Mr Albon. So come along and join us as we investigate the crime scene, carry out experiments to analyse the evidence and find out the identity of the kidnapper and their motive. Science club will be running every Wednesday from the 2^nd March from 3:10 – 4:00.

Tic + Free Parent Support Groups

We wanted to share with you details of FREE Parent Support Groups that we are running from March 2022 over a course of 6 weeks, for parents/carers of children between the ages of 11-18.

We have already run groups through the last year, and these have proved really successful and parents/carers’ have given us amazing feedback on how helpful, informative and supportive they have found the course. The group is designed to inform and support parents, helping them to understand their child’s distress and discover effective strategies to improve their resilience. The group is also an opportunity for parents going through similar experiences to encourage, support and learn from each other in a safe and friendly environment.
