Barnwood Book Month

March has been an exciting month at Barnwood Park as we engaged with our first annual Book Month to celebrate World Book Day 2023.There have been many competitions for form groups and individual students to take part in and it is not over yet!

CentreStage 2023

On Monday 13th & Tuesday 14th March, a cast of 70 Barnwood Park Students were involved in our annual CentreStage Dance Show. PE Department

Netball season has come to a close with the District tournaments. All year groups participated well in the group stages but did not place in the knockout rounds. Thank you to everybody who attended and represented the school for Netball this year. Netball will return next academic year.

Football season has also concluded. Congratulations to Year 9 boys for competing in the district semi-finals, sadly missing out on their spot in the final. Football will resume next academic year.

Next Term

Kit expectations:

All students are expected to bring in their PE kit and get changed, even if they are excused. All classes will start to be outside, and the weather is unpredictable. A note, preferably a doctor's note, should be provided for any student who is unable to take part practically.

From Easter we would like all students to be in white socks for all practical lessons. Reminder not to get anything pierced as it may cause injury to themselves or someone else.

Extra-curricular Clubs:

Tuesday: Cricket /Tennis/Outdoor Badminton

Wednesday: GCSE and Sport Studies interventions.

Thursday: Rugby League and Rounders

This Term in Dance

It has been a busy term for the Dance department, full of many achievements.

Great Big Dance Off: 27^th February 2023

The Great Big Dance Off allows secondary schools from across the region to come together to perform the dances they have been practising at school. Evolve and BPAC Dance Company performed at the Forum in Bath and showcased their exceptional talent.

Move It: 10th March 2023

MOVE IT is the world’s biggest dance event, bringing together over 27,000 people from the performing arts community. Students watched incredible performances from the UK’s top dance schools and classes and attended a musical theatre class from an industry professional.

After Easter

The dance extra-curricular timetable will change slightly:

Tuesday after-school: BPAC Dance Company

Wednesday after-school: Evolve Dance Company

Friday after-school: KS3 Dance Club (available to all Year 7, 8 and 9s).

Safeguarding

We have been made aware of a national emerging financial threat to students. Organised crime groups are co-opting thousands of young people into their money-laundering networks each month, click here to view a leaflet with more information, advice and support for students and guardians of students. Although the information attached mentions that criminals are recruiting money mules between the ages of 17 and 24, locally there is evidence that this is occurring with even younger students.

As a school, we continue to develop student understanding of online safety and awareness of financial scams and risks. We will continue discussion of this topic in classes and would like to remind you that you can report a concern (for yourself or others) to concerns@barnwood-park.gloucs.sch.uk
