PE noticeboard:

After half term all classes will be participating in a cross-country event, they are advised to wear outdoor PE kit with house colour socks, football/rugby boots.

All classes will also have a theory test on warm ups and cool downs, a revision sheet will be on Satchel one for them to revise.

Sports for next term: Football (boots and shin pads) and Netball (House colour socks and trainers). 

Non-participating students: reminder that if your child is unable to take part in their PE lesson, they must provide a note and bring in their PE kit. This is to avoid you child getting caught out in the rain as the weather is unpredictable.

Term 1 news:

Well done to all those who have engaged in training and putting themselves forward for representing the school. Boys fixtures will be focusing on Rugby up until Christmas, followed by Football in the New Year. 

Results have been a mixed bag so far but really good signs for the up and coming games ahead.

Year 7 started out with a challenging game against Churchdown but it was great to see tries scored and resilience shown throughout.

Year 8 started out with a tough game against Severn Vale but a vast improvement against Chruchdown, coming away with an excellent win. 

Year 9 numbers have been low at training, resulting in cancellation of fixtures. Plenty of fixtures to come but more numbers at training has to be the focus for Year 9 at the moment.

Year 10 began with an excellent game against Severn Vale resulting in a draw. Members of the opposition coaching team commended our boys for their attitude and performance after the game. Yr10 then had a difficult game against Churchdown, highlighting plenty of things to improve on.

W/C 14^th November - Dene Magna

The U16 Netball team represented the school at the U16 School's County Challenge Cup. The team went with no expectation but to gain experience of a higher standard of Netball. Within the group stages Barnwood Park won 3, drew 1 and lost 1 a game. This placed the team in 2^nd place and they progressed to the Semi-final. A fantastic knockout match against an experienced Tetbury team ended the progress of the Barnwood squad. POM to all who played: Kim Davis, Laticia Davies, Ceanna Blair, Sophie Poole, Kashefa Olokowo, Jess Owen, Ella Bywater, Gemma Lee, Abbie Ward, Kaitlyn Hepburn.

On the 30^th September we celebrated European Day of Languages.  Similar to last year, we ran a whole school competition where students had to hunt a “Hello” in another language.  It was wonderful to see so many students and staff participating during the day.  Congratulations to all the participants.  We had over 25 entries and winners have been drawn by Mrs Clinton. 

Congratulations to Jayene Navaruban who came in 1^st place, with Alannah Wood in 2^nd place and Tianah Lewis in 3^rd place.

During languages lessons we celebrated the day with activities exploring languages everywhere, as well as discussing the importance of having a language.

We are running a 2^nd Competition for the end of term for a bit of fun, with winners receiving 10 house points.  Can you name the Spanish or French artist? Please see the MFL Notice Board for the competition and submit your entries to your language teacher by 11^th November 2022.

As part of Black History month, Year 8 food groups have been trying Jamaican chicken, rice and peas and fried dumplings. The student's learnt about the origin of the food and why we celebrate Black History month.

Barnwood Young Writers have had a fantastic first term. We have explored poetry about identity and belonging, stories about time travel and writing inspired by objects, as well as running a writing workshop for Year 6 students on open evening. The group is still open to new members and all keen young writers are encouraged to come along.

Wednesday after school - 3:15 - 4:15pm in C4 with Mr Mountain and Mr Holliday.

Thank you to all those who took part in the competition to design a logo for our Reading Challenge badges. We received in excess of 20 entries, some hand-drawn and others drawn using digital apps. The quality of designs was extremely high with entries from each year group, so it made choosing a winner difficult, but we finally decided on Lily’s design, which incorporated all aspects of the Reading Challenge. Well done to all, particularly to Lily in Y7!

Please note: The Reading Challenge is designed for students to read 25 library books by the end of the academic year and house points, certificates and badges will be awarded to those who achieve it.
